A proposal for a unified park encompassing
the shoreline of Lake Ronkonkoma,
Lily Pond Preserve and W.S. Commerdinger
County Park

Lake Ronkonkoma is the largest freshwater lake on Long Island. The Lake has been a place of recreation, tourism and commerce throughout its history. Over the years Islip, Brookhaven, Smithtown Towns and Suffolk County have each built facilites at the Lake shoreline. They limit access to small parts of the Lake shoreline and in one case access is restricted to town residents only. Over the last several decades, some of the shoreline facilities have deteriorated and become unusable.

Revitalization of the Lake shoreline will restore the balance of preservation, enhancement, protection, development and use of Lake Ronkonkoma resources. This can only happen if Islip, Brookhaven, Smithtown Towns and Suffolk County work together to create a Vision for Lake Ronkonkoma Revitalization. This creates the possibility of making all the Lake's resources available to the greatest number of residents.
